Chapter 3 · Peoplarium

Concept

What exactly are we building?

Peoplarium is a tool, not an organizer: verified members find each other, talk and plan their own meetups, while AI suggests and moderates. The platform never runs events, pays hosts, holds money for meetups or supervises what people do offline.

As of September 2026 · Peoplarium is a Digi117 venture in development.

The core loop

The loop runs without anyone from Peoplarium in it. Members verify, discover, connect, plan and meet. The pulse after a meetup feeds the next round of discovery.

Members run every step; the offline meetup is theirs aloneSeven steps in a loop: verify, profile and Mirror, discover, connect, plan, meet, pulse; pulse feeds the next round of discovery. The meetup sits in an offline zone outside the platform.Members run every step; the offline meetup is theirs aloneSelf-serve core loop; AI suggests inside the platform, the platform is absent offlineVerifyLiveness + ID, oncebadge, face optionalProfile + Mirror3-min quick card, then one question/dayDiscoverHubs, people, open seats on plansConnectChat, translation, voice speed-meetsPlanMember hosts; AIdrafts place and timeMeetIn public, membersonly, no platformPulseMeet again? Discovery is highlighted because it is where the AI does most of its work. The meetup itself sits outside the platform.
  • Verify. Liveness and ID, once, through a vendor that returns a result, not a document. The badge says "Verified Real · ID checked". The face stays optional.
  • Profile and Mirror. A quick card in about three minutes gets a first suggestion. After that, one question a day, by voice or text. Mirror shows members what the system believes about them, line by line, to confirm, correct or delete.
  • Discover. Interest hubs, structured personal posts ("climbing partner, Sundays, Kitsilano") and open seats on plans other members already made.
  • Connect. One-to-one and group chat with free translation. Voice speed-meets: short rounds between verified members, grouped by interest.
  • Plan. A member says "something low-key Thursday near Main Street". The AI planner drafts a few public places and times. The member edits, picks and posts the plan as its host.
  • Meet. In public, between members. The platform is not there.
  • Pulse. After the meetup: would you meet again? Mutual yeses form crews. Reputation stays private.

The operating law

Members decide and organize; AI suggests and moderates; the platform provides tools and never takes part in what happens offline. Every feature is tested against this line.

Area Members do AI does The platform never does
Meeting Create plans, set time, place, size and who can join; approve joiners Drafts plan ideas, suggests public places and times, finds people for an open seat Picks a venue for strangers, composes groups, runs or sponsors events
Money Pay for their own coffee Nothing Takes deposits, seat fees or a cut of meetups
Identity Verify once, choose what to show Checks liveness and ID through a vendor; returns a badge Stores ID images; claims "safe" or "background-checked"
Communication Chat, talk, send their own messages Translates, flags scams and harassment, drafts replies the member may send Sends messages as the member
Safety Share plans with trusted contacts, call 911, report, block Detects risk signals, warns, suggests public places Monitors check-ins, dispatches help, promises outcomes
Moderation Report and appeal Classifies, acts under written rules, writes the reason Relies on staff it must manage
Consent Grant and revoke face reveals, albums, video Records each grant in the consent ledger Grants consent on anyone's behalf

Words matter as much as features. Product copy says "suggested; you decide", "tools, not guarantees" and "Peoplarium is not the organizer". A US court let a claim proceed against an app that promised to unmask and ban abusers and did not. The product never promises what the system cannot guarantee.

The hard rules

Hard rules, in every version. No AI-generated nudity or sexual content. AI never impersonates a member or acts as a romantic companion. Consent is never delegated to AI. Minors are banned everywhere. Members decide and organize; AI suggests and moderates; the platform provides tools and never takes part offline.

These rules held in every plan version. They remove most exposure to the 2026 deepfake laws in Canada, the US, the EU and the UK, and they remove the features users distrust most.

How it replaces hosted tables

The first plan had an AI host composing tables of four to six strangers every week, with paid human hosts. The self-serve plan replaces that with four mechanisms.

  • Open seats. Any plan a member makes can offer one to three seats to verified strangers who fit. Plans people already make become the discovery engine, the way invite links grew Partiful.
  • Suggestions, not assignments. The AI tells people about plans that fit them. The host approves who joins. No group is composed by the platform.
  • Approximate location. Everyone sees the area; only confirmed attendees see the exact spot.
  • Organizers are members. Run clubs, language exchanges and Discord communities post their events and open seats. The reward is reach and tools, never payment.

The honest risk: without hosts, density in one city grows slower. Hubs, chat and voice speed-meets work online at any hour, so the city does not have to be dense on day one.

Safety tools, always free

Safety is never a paid feature.

  • Share Plan sends the plan to the member's own trusted contacts. It needs the other person's consent in the flow.
  • Trusted-contact SMS and one-tap 911 with the address filled in. No Canadian dispatch partner offers an API, and the best-known panic button is US-only.
  • Report and block, with reported members removed from recommendations at once.

Check-ins go to trusted contacts, never to the platform. A platform that monitors check-ins takes on a duty to act on them.

Free and Plus

The MVP is free. Plus arrives in Phase 2 at CAD 19.99 a month, or CAD 191.90 a year, on web billing.

Free, always Plus (Phase 2)
Verification and the badge Live translation
Profiles, Mirror, hubs, personals AI reply drafts; the member always sends
Chat with text translation Further features, not public yet
Plans, open seats, voice speed-meets
Every safety tool

Plus sells time and depth. It never sells safety or visibility: no boosts, no "see who liked you", one price for everyone, one-tap cancel. Members whose plans get good pulses can get Plus free.
