The finding
The research designed the first two weeks of two AI features. Mirror shows a member what Peoplarium believes about them. The concierge learns their preferences slowly.
Known, a voice-AI dating app, runs an onboarding interview that averaged 26 minutes in testing. The research treated that as a ceiling, not a starting point. A cold sign-up should see a first suggestion within 3 minutes, then get at most one short question a day.
Of the behavior signals available, it picked mutual hang-again as the one to log first: after a shared plan, both people say they would meet again. It is yes or no, consented, and close to the goal of repeat meetups. Dwell time and reply speed were set aside as noisy and intrusive.
Why it mattered to the design
Mirror shows each belief as a plain-language card with Confirm, Correct and Delete. A suggestion explains itself using only what the member allowed. Mirror never shows attractiveness scores or who viewed a profile.
Learning from behavior, such as RSVPs, show-ups and hang-again votes, is off until the member opts in. Patterns in who someone meets can reveal sexual orientation, a sensitive inference. Canada's consent guidance asks for express consent in that case and lets people withdraw it. The AI never speaks as the member and never acts as a companion.
How it was checked
AI research agents drafted the schedule and signal choice. We opened the TechCrunch report on Known and confirmed the 26-minute average. We opened the federal privacy commissioner's consent guidelines and confirmed that sensitive information needs express consent and that consent can be withdrawn. The research had behavioral learning on by default; the plan review made it opt-in. Hang-again as the best signal is reasoning, not a measured result.
